Local transportation
There are international and Jordanian car rentals at the airport, in Ammam and Aqada. A day will cost you about £30 with unlimited mileage. You will need your national driving license and international insurance green card. You can also rent a chauffeur-driven car.

The country’s major cities are served by fast, relatively inexpensive coaches. A round ticket from Amman to Aqada costs about £8 for 205 miles), £11 for Amman-Petra.

Taxis hired in the city (yellow) have a timer (50p an average journey in Amman). There are service-taxis (white) covering long distances with fixed itineraries that leave when they are full. You can be dropped where you want, and picked up along the way.

Amman and Aqaba are served daily by Royal Jordanian Airlines.
